theblankholidays Hard to pick a favorite track. Back2ThaSky for the dreamy feel plus interesting chord progression. Generally, the album vacillates between ambient, pop and folk, which are held together by a lo-fi, minimal style as a common theme. Favorite track: Back2ThaSky.

about

The Triangle Man (aka Clinton Smith) of Lincoln, Nebraska has produced something both affecting and charmingly strange with his first label release "Majick"---incorporating various genres (outsider folk, bedroom pop, ambient, drone) into his idiosyncratic vision of experimental solo song-writing. You never know where the next song is going to take you--whether it be a sweeping instrumental piece that sounds like life after death or a short parable about the importance of brushing one's teeth every morning.

Reviews:

"...A genuine DIY one-man operation, multi-tracking alone late into the starry night. While I'm not at all familiar with Smith's previous work--this is a genuine work of experimental/lo-fi/bedroom pop art...or art pop. It is as much outsider/avant-garde as it is rock/folk--in that sense the dread 'POP' phrase only applies because there are in fact some actual songs here, there is legitimate songwriting talent and music ability present. This is a proper 15 track album of thoroughly captivating and highly diverse material. From pastoral art folk tunes to weirded-out psych-drone pieces this release takes you on a deeply intimate yet wildly-warped dreamlike musical journey. I'm tempted to go as far as saying it's a work of a (deranged) genius...This release is limited to a mere 20 physical copies. The quality, the artistic value of this material far exceeds that number in my mind. Yes, this is definitely vinyl-worthy, and worthy of far more widespread attention. Please support the artist and the label, truly worthwhile stuff, it deserves a listen..."

-Underground Tape Review

"Bizarre outsider folk artist Clinton Smith, dons the persona of Triangle Man to travel to other musical dimensions we mortals can only dream of. Using his geometric metaphysical powers, he asks the universe the tough questions in a wavering, antiquated voice, surrounded by swirling masses of haunting accompaniment.

Certainly the strength of Triangle Man, the source of his mighty power, is his ability to speak to a number of subjects in a variety of styles, from soul-searching numbers like the piano-laden How Does the Spirit Know Where to Go When the Body Dies?, to the 7 minute ambient burner, Majick Clouds, to even a brief track addressing dental hygiene, The Toothbrush Song. Triangle Man blends the spiritual and the mundane, the transcendent with the ordinary.

Overall, Majick is a slow, thoughtful piece that travels along enlightened pathways to higher levels of being, while rooting itself in earthly, mortal means of expression."
